Jo Colman
After an early career spanning charity, politics, and flavour development—including a role at Hampshire-based B Corp, Jude’s Ice Cream—Jo Colman joined the family business in 2018. As the grandson of founder Sir Michael Colman, he continues the family’s commitment to responsible farming and sustainability. Summerdown grows, harvests, and distills the rare Black Mitcham peppermint alongside other herbs and crops on its farm just outside Basingstoke. The peppermint oil they produce is the star ingredient in a range of award-winning chocolates, teas, and treats, which are sold in food halls, delis, and farm shops across the UK and internationally.
Summerdown exports globally, with North America and Europe as key markets and Australia growing rapidly. The business remains focused on maintaining its values and identity while expanding its reach, ensuring that its single-estate peppermint and sustainably crafted products continue to stand out in a competitive market.
